Seacoast Cancer Center expands to 2nd Floor

The Seacoast Cancer Center has expanded into newly renovated space on the 2nd floor of Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.  This move represents phase 1 of a 2-part renovation project planned to bring the cancer center more space for infusion and medical oncology needs, added comfort for patients and families, and new technology and space to support the new relationship with Massachusetts General Hospital.

In late 2017, new space on the 2nd floor of the hospital was opened for medical oncology patients.  The new space includes twenty-eight beautifully designed infusion rooms centered on our patients needs with added space for family, and amenities such as lighting and zoned temperature controls, and more privacy.  The center utilizes natural colors and materials to invoke a sense of calm for patients receiving treatment and also includes dedicated space for the oncology pharmacy, four team-centered clinical areas for nursing staff, and separate space for nurse practitioners nurse navigators, and other support team members so as to be in close proximity to patients during their visit.

Care in the Seacoast Cancer Center involves many caregivers.  Here, the team includes board-certified medical and radiation oncologists working in collaboration with oncology certified nurse practitioners, nurses and specialty clinicians, nurse navigators, pharmacists, social workers, nutritionists, physical therapists, integrative therapists, palliative care physicians and staff, and a whole support team to provide personalized care and expert treatment every day.

Renovation work has now moved to the 1st floor of the Seacoast Cancer Center where plans call for a newly reconfigured medical oncology area to house exam rooms and physician offices (which are temporarily using space in the newly renovated 2nd floor location until construction is complete), new space for Mass General sub-specialty cancer clinics including gynecologic oncology and thoracic surgery, and a state-of-the-art  technology room for tele-conferencing with specialists at Mass General and other tertiary hospitals.
