Family Values

The saying, “charity begins at home,” is certainly true in the Resca household. “In my family, we believe in the rule of thirds,” explains Tim, who is 13. “When my sister or I get money as a gift, we save a third, give a third to charity and get to spend a third.”

So when Tim, an eighth grader from Sharon, Mass., received money from his grandparents, Dick and Jan Conley, for Christmas, he used part of it to make a gift to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital. “I’ve done the Seacoast Cancer 5K with my grandparents and our family team for the past two years,” he notes.

Philanthropy clearly runs in the family. The Conleys, of Dover, NH, are longtime Wentworth-Douglass supporters. Dick is a member of the Foundation board; in addition to participating in the 5K, the Conleys have been instrumental in the Charity Golf Classic, which raises funds for the Women & Children’s Center.

The note Tim sent says:

Dear Grandma Jan and Pop Pop.

Thank you so much for the money.  We put some money into my savings account and the monety I put to charity went to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.  The rest of it, I havent decided what to do with it, but it will be great.  Thank you so much.

Love,

Tim
