Wentworth-Douglass Hospital has been named one of the nation’s “Most Wired” Hospitals and Health Systems for the second year in a row by Hospitals & Health Networks, a journal publication of the American Hospital Association.
Technology is improving the efficiency of care delivery and creating a new dynamic in patient interactions, according to results of the 18th Annual Health Care’s Most Wired® survey, released in July by the American Hospital Association’s (AHA) Health Forum. Top priorities for hospitals in 2016 include using telehealth to fill gaps in care; providing services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; and expanding access to medical specialists.
“The great thing about this award is that it’s not based on technical capabilities like how much disk space you have or network complexity. It’s awarded to healthcare organizations based on what they are doing with their technology,” said Jeffrey Pollock, Vice President of Information Technology/Chief Information Officer for Wentworth-Douglass Health System. “This includes things like population health analytics, electronic medication administration, electronic prescriptions, patient portals, chronic disease management, etc. Wentworth-Douglass is very aggressive in getting clinical value out of our technology investments.”
In redefining the way that they provide care in their communities, Most Wired hospitals are using technology to build patient engagement with the individual’s lifestyle in mind, which includes electronic access to their care team.
“Hospitals are breaking-out of their traditional four walls and providing care where and when patients need it,” said Rick Pollack, president and CEO of the AHA. “These Most Wired hospitals exemplify this transformation by harnessing technology, engaging patients and offering services remotely. And, removing policy and other barriers to telehealth will allow even faster adoption of these amazing technologies.”
