WDH Trauma Team to Host Stop the Bleed Training Classes

DOVER, NH – On National Stop the Bleed Day on March 31, Wentworth-Douglass Hospital will be hosting four free Stop the Bleed training classes taught by certified trainers from the WDH Trauma Team. The goal of these classes and the Stop the Bleed movement is to teach the public proper bleeding control techniques so they can help victims with uncontrolled bleeding before professional help arrives.

The Stop the Bleed campaign was launched by the White House in October 2015 in response to the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, CT. This national preparedness initiative strives to make the public well prepared to perform life-saving techniques in an emergency situation.

“Preparing for the unimaginable is scary but important,” says Lynn Marie Chabot, MS, RN, Trauma and SANE Program Manager at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital. “These lifesaving skills can make a big difference in an emergency. Whether it’s an accident with a snow blower or a car accident, it can lead to significant bleeding. It is just as important to know how to stop the bleed as it is to know CPR.”

Wentworth-Douglass Hospital is supporting the Stop the Bleed campaign by providing the community with proper training on bleeding control techniques during four free Stop the Bleed classes. These classes will be held on Saturday, March 31, from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., and 3:00 - 4:00 p.m., at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital. Register for one of these classes on the WDH Events page.

Chabot says she hopes to begin offer training classes at local schools as well. For more information about hosting a class at your location, call (603) 740-3372.
