Patient Information

For the 16 years, The Wentworth-Douglass Sleep Disorders Center has diagnosed and treated patients with complex sleep-related disorders. The relocated and upgraded Center on the third level of the Ambulatory Building (South entrance) offers six sleep rooms with private bathrooms and showers, soft lighting, comfortable bedding and highly skilled staff.

Because you spend approximately one-third of your life sleeping, it is imperative to have quality sleep in order to stay healthy. Using state-of-the-art computerized recording equipment, WDH’s Sleep Disorders Center monitors sleep, breathing patterns, heart rate, eye movement, muscle and brain wave activity as well as oxygen flow. Measuring these results helps the staff of the Sleep Disorders Center evaluate the cause and determine the proper treatment. Common sleep disorders include: insomnia (difficulty in falling asleep), sleep apnea (a life threatening disorder that causes you to stop breathing during sleep), narcolepsy (sudden sleep attacks and persistent sleepiness), restless leg syndrome and  parasomnias (abnormal and recurrent nighttime behaviors such as night terrors and sleepwalking). Treatments vary based on diagnosis.
