Preparing for Surgery

Pre-Operative Phone Interview

If you meet certain health criteria, it will not be necessary to come to the hospital for pre-admission testing.

  • A few days prior to your surgery, you will speak to a Registered Nurse by phone who will review your health history, and instruct you regarding preparing for your surgery.
  • The interview will take approximately 20 to 30 minutes
  • You may ask the nurse to call back another time that is more convenient
  • If you are unavailable, the nurse will leave a message to call back to a specific number
  • On the day of your surgery, you will meet with an Anesthesiologist in the Same Day Surgery unit who will answer your questions about anesthesia and obtain your consent for the anesthesia.
  • If your surgeon has ordered blood work, an x-ray and or an EKG, it is important that you complete this on your own prior to the day of your surgery.
