Preparing for Surgery

Pre Operative Screening

Because your anesthesiologist is responsible for your medical care during your entire course of surgery, it is important to know as much as possible about your overall medical condition. In addition to questions about your medical history, we need to know about reactions to drugs or previous anesthetics, prescription or over-the-counter medications, smoking and alcohol use, and any herbal supplements you may be taking.

Depending on your health history, your type of surgery, or your surgeon’s recommendation, you may be scheduled to come to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital for a Pre-Admission Testing Visit to meet with our Nurse Practitioner or an Anesthesiologist.

In most circumstances, our Nursing staff will be able to discuss your health history and give you instructions to prepare for surgery with a phone interview.
