Patient Information

PULMONARY AND NEUROSCIENCES

The Pulmonary Medicine Department treats patients from newborns to adults who have difficulty breathing. Common ailments range from pneumonia and bronchitis to severe emphysema and lung trauma.

The department operates a fully computerized pulmonary function laboratory for use by both inpatients and outpatients. They also conduct breathing workshops and smoking cessation classes for people from the community who suffer from breathing problems.

The Electroencephalogram, (EEG), is a painless test which monitors brain waves while the patient is awake or asleep. It is done for patients to rule out seizures or epilepsy, or to determine damage done to the brain by stroke.
Evoked Potentials, a series of four different tests, are also performed here to test the integrity of the Central Nervous System. These tests are done for inpatients and outpatients.
