LABORATORY AND BLOOD BANK SERVICES

The Department of Laboratory Services provides 24-hour diagnostic testing and services for all patients. The Laboratory Computer Information System is linked to the Hospital Computer Information System to give physicians and staff access to patient test results in a timely and efficient way.

Autologous blood donations for healthy adults planning elective surgery is a service offered by the American Red Cross at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital. A patient donates their own blood a few weeks before surgery; it is tested and stored for possible use if required during surgery. Please call the Red Cross at 1-800-262-2660 for more information.

All blood transfused at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital is collected and fully processed by the Red Cross, New England Region, and is tested for infectious diseases.
