INTEGRATIVE THERAPY SERVICES
Long before people
associated hospitals with health care and healing, ancient cultures
focused on the energy of life forces and the spirit within
to heal the sick. The
INTEGRATION of ancient and contemporary medicine acknowledges
that the body, mind and spirit work together in the healing
process. INTEGRATIVE means
blending together
holistic with tradition, high touch with high
technology, healing with caring. It's all about CARING!
Some current
offerings:
Acupuncture: An ancient Chinese medicine modality now known
to benefit a wide range of medical conditions. Several WDH physicians have
received additional training in acupuncture. You may make your own appointment
or your care doctor may make a referral.
Mind-Body Courses: Recommended for people interested in staying
healthy and those experiencing life transitions: work stress, menopause,
divorce or separation, cancer, retirement, chronic illness. Participants
learn and practice such mind-body techniques as biofeedback, meditation,
relaxation, and guided imagery.
Pet Visitation Program: Hospital Volunteers and their
certified therapy dogs visit patient care areas on a regularly scheduled
basis. Reiki (pronounced "ray-key"): Gentle therapy
that provides deep relaxation and often evokes a sense of peace
and well-being. For
patients, Reiki treatments in the hospital take about 15 minutes,
are offered at no cost, and are most frequently requested before
or after surgery.
Sail Through Surgery: A self-study guide to assist patients
in preparing for their surgery. Medical studies show that patients who
prepare for surgery
have less pain, fewer complications, leave the hospital and
recover sooner. This program uses cassette tapes containing healing imagery,
affirmations
and relaxing music. The program guide and tapes are available
from your surgeon or from WDH.
Therapeutic Massage: Touch therapy that promotes relaxation
and comfort. Bedside massage is
available for hospitalized patients with the written permission
of their physician. Patient family members, hospital staff
and community may enjoy a
massage by calling (603) 740-2671 to arrange an appointment.
Massage therapy is offered as a complimentary gift for all
new moms delivering at WDH. Gift certificates for massage
at WDH may be purchased from the greeters in the Main Lobby.
