EARLY LEARNING CENTER AT WENTWORTH-DOUGLASS HOSPITAL
The Early Learning Center at Wentworth-Douglass
Hospital can be found on the north
side of the hospital, across the parking lot from the Emergency
Department. The center's hours of
operation are Monday-Friday from
6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The population served consists of children
six-weeks to
six-years-of-age (with up to five
school-aged children when space
is available) whose parents are employees of Wentworth-Douglass Hospital,
as well as children of active medical
staff.
The teachers of the Early Learning Center are
experienced, educated and highly
trained practitioners of early childhood
education and development. The curriculum
is based on developmentally appropriate
practices, as sanctioned by the
National Association for the Education of Young Children. The teaching
staff is certified in First Aid,
CPR, and Community Water Safety,
and attend workshops and conferences to keep current in childcare
practices. Many of the teachers also
continue with higher
education to become ever more proficient
in their abilities to offer the
highest quality childcare programs.
Parents who have children enrolled
at the Early Learning Center are welcome to visit throughout the day. Many
mothers of nursing infants take advantage of our close proximity to breast-feed
their babies during the day. The Early Learning Center also has many
parent-involved functions such Mother's Day/Father's Day luncheons; holiday
parties; and special celebrations that parents and family members are welcome
to attend during the day or after-hours in the evenings and on
weekends.
