WHAT IS "EXERCISE WORKS" FOR CANCER RECOVERY?

Wentworth-Douglass Hospital’s Rehabilitation Services, Seacoast Cancer Center and The Works Health & Fitness Center are pleased to offer an exercise program for cancer patients. The program serves as a “bridge” to assist patients in the challenging transition from treatment and rehab to previous activities and levels of functioning.

Exercise Works for Cancer Recovery is a two-part program.

Part 1. A physical therapy assessment at WDH determines readiness for participation in an exercise program at The Works or a home exercise program. Associated costs are generally covered by most insurance companies, however, you may be responsible for any co-pays and/or deductibles.

Part 2. The Works offers a FREE 3-month exercise program. The physical therapy assessment will help determine which of the following options is most appropriate.
Option #1 A group class led by fitness specialists, held Mon. and Wed. at The Works from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m.
Option #2 A group class for one month with additional independent cardiovascular exercise time. After one month, the fitness specialist will determine if additional independent exercises may be added.
Option #3 An independent exercise program following a personal training appointment with a fitness specialist at The Works. The participant will have the opportunity to exercise independently using cardio-vascular and strength training equipment.

    HOW DO I GET STARTED?
    1. Obtain physician referral from your Oncologist to WDH’s Physical Therapy/Rehab Department.
    2. Receive an assessment with a physical therapist at WDH.
    3. Meet with a fitness specialist at The Works for an intake.
    4. Begin free 3-month Exercise Works for Cancer Recovery Program at TheWorks.

    6. Continue an exercise program of choice.
