Why Give Birth At The Wentworth-Douglass Hospital
Birth Center?
The Birth Center has:
FAMILY-CENTERED PHILOSOPHY- Our experienced medical staff, including Board Certified OB/GYNs, Certified Nurse Midwives, Pediatricians, Anesthesiologists, highly skilled Registered Nurses, and Lactation Consultants believe in a philosophy of total care for the mother, baby, and family.
INDIVIDUALIZED LABOR PLANS- We encourage each woman to make a birthing plan that is suitable for her. Because women’s perceptions of labor pain vary, so do their choices about pain management and comfort. Our staff’s philosophy is to partner with the woman to enable her to have the labor she envisions, under the safest of conditions. We have many options for non-medicated and medicated labor to help the woman through the process. Water birth, hypnobirth, jacuzzi, wireless fetal monitoring, birth balls, pain medications, and epidurals are just some of our options for labor and delivery. We allow each woman to choose who will be present during her labor process.
INDIVIDUALIZED CARE IN PRIVATE SUITES – Providing quality care and comfort are our top priorities. Warm, inviting, private rooms offer Mom, baby and family all the comforts of home. Babies room-in with Mom and Dad so our nurses can educate the whole family on new baby and Mom care. Lactation consultants will visit each woman who chooses to breastfeed. A post-partum massage is offered to every woman. We provide room-service style meals so that Mom may order her food according to her own schedule.
LEVEL II NURSERY – We offer the Seacoast’s only designated level II nursery, which means that we are able to provide your infant with an added level of care should the need arise. Our RN staff is highly trained in the care of premature infants and infants who are having difficulty transitioning to life outside the womb. We are directly affiliated with Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and consult with their specialized neonatal staff when necessary.
LACTATION SERVICES – All of the Birth Center’s nurses are trained in breastfeeding techniques. Additionally, our Lactation Consultants assist every woman who chooses to breastfeed to ensure a successful experience. Their services are available to women and their babies throughout the duration of breastfeeding. For more information, call 603-740-2233.
SPECIALIZED SECURITY – All entrances to the Birth Center are locked to provide an added level of security for our new families. Visitors are invited in only with Mom’s permission. Security cameras monitor all hallways.
HOME VISITING NURSES- The hospital offers every woman a home visit with a skilled maternal-newborn nurse. The nurse will call to schedule the visit within a few days of discharge. During the visit, she will do a complete physical exam of both mother and baby, and answer any questions that the new family may have. Each visit is individualized to meet the woman’s specific needs. For more information, call 603-742-6505 ext 127.
