A severe angina attack during a friendly game of racquetball in 2002 stopped former football coach Tom Levasseur in his tracks and sent him to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital’s cardiac cath lab. The treatment saved his heart and left him with an indelible impression about a truly caring hospital.
“This place (WDH) just resonates with me. It was the way I was treated that impressed me the most about this hospital,” said Tom. Eventually he connected with the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital & Health Foundation’s Planned Giving Advisory Group, later joining the Stewardship Committee and the Annual Fund Committee before joining the Foundation Board in 2009. This year his commitment grew even stronger with a personal pledge of $10,000 to support a new Cardiovascular Interventional Lab.
As the population of the Seacoast ages, there is an increasing need for access to high quality, evidence-based cardiac and vascular medical care. In the past seven years, 3,335 patients have been treated in the Cardiovascular Interventional Lab necessitating a second lab to provide cardiovascular services for emergency patients.
Levasseur is a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table, Top of the Table member and a Diamond Knight of the Million Dollar Round Table Foundation. He is the principal of Beacon Retirement Group - a local independent financial advisor helping people with their retirement and estate planning issues.
