2010 Bank of America Charitable Foundation Supports Wentworth-Douglass Community Dental Center
The Bank of America Charitable Foundation awarded the Wentworth-Douglass Community Dental Center $5,000 to continue providing affordable oral healthcare to low-income, uninsured and underserved residents of the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital service area. The Foundation has contributed to the success of the Dental Center over the past five years with gifts totaling $52,500.
Hospital President & CEO Gregory Walker thanked Bank of America for their generosity. “We are truly grateful for the generous contribution made by Bank of America and their commitment to improving overall health,” he said. “Before we opened the Dental Center our Emergency Department saw too many people in terrible pain due to poor dental health with few resources for their care. It is so rewarding to know we’ve made a difference in the health of families in our community.”
“Our support of the Wentworth-Douglass Dental Center and their efforts is based on a shared goal of helping those in need attain access to quality healthcare,” said John F. Weeks, president, Bank of America New Hampshire. “What the Dental Center has been able to do in just under five years is truly impressive.”
Thousands of children and adults are healthier today because their dental needs have been met. Over $4.8 million of dental care has been provided since the Dental Center opened in June 2005. More than 28,000 patient visits for almost 6,000 local residents reflects the need for affordable oral healthcare. Educational outreach programs include Head Start classes, day care centers, community health expos, senior centers, and long-term residential facilities. In 2009, the Dental Center staff prepared oral health programs for the Seacoast Cancer Center and Wound Healing Institute patients and staff to address the oral health needs of specialty medical patients.
