2012 U.S. News Ranks WDH as one of Best Regional Hospitals in Boston Metro Area
Wentworth-Douglass Hospital (WDH) is the only NH hospital listed in U.S. News Media & World Report’s 2012-13 Best Hospital rankings for the Boston Metro Area released on Tuesday, July 17, 2012. WDH ranked #15 in the categories of Gastroenterology and Pulmonology in the Boston Metro Area and, for the first time, received recognition in two State rankings.
WDH ranked second in the list of all hospitals in the state of New Hampshire following first place Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. WDH was also listed first of two hospitals recognized for strong performance in Southern New Hampshire.
According to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital President & CEO Gregory Walker this is the third consecutive period Wentworth-Douglass Hospital has been ranked as a Best Regional Hospital in the Boston Metro Area. “This ranking recognizes the contributions of all our caregivers who provide high quality care everyday for patients in our community,” Walker said. “We are honored to be listed among the other distinguished healthcare institutions in the Boston area and, this year, with other high performing hospitals in NH.”
The latest rankings showcase 720 hospitals out of about 5,000 hospitals nationwide. Each is ranked among the country’s top hospitals in at least one medical specialty and/or ranked among the best hospitals in its metro area. According to the US News website, many categories of data go into the rankings that are based on four elements: reputation, patient survival, patient safety, and care-related factors such as nursing and patient services.
The report also lists patient satisfaction levels from a survey of recently discharged patients submitted to the federal government by U.S. hospitals. In answer to the question of whether patients would recommend the hospital to friends and family, 80% of WDH patients answered “definitely”, compared to a NH average score of 73% and national average score of 69%.
