Lifetime Dover resident James Kageleiry was named the first Honorary Director of the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital & Health Foundation Board of Directors at the annual meeting of the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital Board of Trustees on Mon., Apr. 4, 2011.
Hospital President & CEO Gregory Walker thanked Kageleiry for his role in the 1985 capital campaign, his leadership on the Foundation’s Stewardship Committee and his generous contributions to two key programs: the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth Pediatric Specialty Medicine Center at WDH and the Seacoast Cancer Center’s state-of-the-art stereotactic radiation therapy program. “When we think back to the work Jim did in 1985 he helped create the foundation that led us to where we are today,” Walker said. “No one deserves this recognition more than Jim.”
An emotional Kageleiry thanked the Board for the honor recalling a former trustee’s request to participate in the capital campaign in 1985. “I remember when Dick Young came to my office and asked me to help out on the campaign,” Kageleiry said. “I told him - I’ll do anything I can do. Dover is important to me, all my children were born at the hospital and I’m happy I was able to help.”
In a special unexpected moment following the presentation Jim’s wife Fran Kageleiry addressed the board to add her warm praise. “Please know he was doing this because he wanted to – Jim doesn’t have a middle name but it should be integrity,” she said. “No matter who he worked with he was always honest and always had integrity.”
Michael Bolduc, Vice Chairman Wentworth-Douglass Hospital & Health Foundation read the proclamation honoring James Kageleiry for the “selfless dedication and leadership of this extraordinary citizen and exemplary steward of Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.”
The Wentworth-Douglass Hospital & Health Foundation Board voted unanimously to name Kageleiry the first Honorary Director at their December 2010 meeting and the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital Board of Trustees also voted unanimously to honor Kageleiry at their January 2011 meeting.
