Thanks to the Demoulas Foundation donation of $5,000 and an anonymous donation of $35,000 CHaD at WDH, an outpatient center for pediatric specialty medicine, recently purchased a new echocardiography machine with 3D imaging capability. This has greatly improved the quality and speed of echocardiograms and arrived in time to support the expansion of fetal echocardiogram services.
The center’s former echo machine was dated and advancements in technology required new equipment. The manufacturer offered a $50,000 discount if the machine was purchased in 2010. The decision was made to go forward with purchasing this piece of equipment and this generous donation along with an anonymous donor’s support of $35,000 helped the Foundation leverage funding from other sources.
The CHaD outpatient clinic performed 894 echocardiograms in 2009 with an additional 20 provided to pediatric inpatients. Dr. Naomi Gauthier, full-time Board Certified Pediatric Cardiologist, is joined by Dr. Thomas Johnson and Dr. Sol Rockenmacher, also Board Certified Pediatric Cardiologists, four times monthly, to provide highly specialized pediatric cardiac care at WDH.
The Demoulas Foundation has donated $32,500 for a variety of programs and services at the Hospital since the inception of the Foundation in 2004. We thank the Demoulas Foundation for their generous support.
