Cancer Center The importance that women, especially over the age of 40 get regular, high-quality mammograms at an accredited center is unparalleled. It is the best form of detection and control of potential breast cancer. With the help of the Women's Life Imaging Center, Wentworth-Douglass is prepared to aid in your cancer-related needs. If a diagnosis is made, WDH offers comprehensive programs in medical oncology, further testing, and radiation therapy. The Seacoast Cancer Center provides the latest in treatments and support services for its patients.
Gynecology The GYN Oncology program is a collaborative effort between Wentworth-Douglass Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. Prior to this collaboration, when surgery by a subspecialist was recommended as part of their treatment plan, women were required to travel to a larger center such as MGH. The GYN Oncology Program at WDH allows the patient's GYN to refer them locally and, in most cases, have the surgery at WDH with Dr. John Schorge, Chief of the Vincent Gynecologic Oncologic Division at MGH, while maintaining all follow-up care here in the Seacoast. The team includes John Schorge, MD, the local GYN physicians, the Seacoast Cancer Center, the OR, radiology and pathology.
Wentworth-Douglass Hospital also has robotic surgical technology, the daVinciSTM System. This laparoscopic robot is approved for urologic, general and gynecological surgeries. It is commonly used for hysterectomy and myomectomy procedures. This technology offers an array of benefits to patients and doctors alike. The system allows a less invasive means to surgery which leads to shorter hospital visits, less pain and scarring, less risk of infection, less blood loss, and faster recovery.
Patients should discuss all the specific risks and benefits of robotics with their provider before electing to proceed.
Women's Life Imaging The Women's Life Imaging Center is the region's largest and most comprehensive breast imaging and bone density center. It is accredited by the American College of Radiology and certified by the Food and Drug Administration. The experienced and professional all-female staff of radiological technologists make comfort and privacy a priority. Breast related Services include: screening and diagnostic mammography, breast ultrasound, and stereotactic core biopsy. Bone densitometry and site-specific scanning are available as well. All tests and scans are interpreted by board-certified radiologists and rheumatologists.
