The Seacoast Cancer Center at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital offers a comprehensive program of radiation oncology and medical oncology services for cancer patients including diagnostic testing, chemotherapy services, radiotherapy services, clinical trials and a full compliment of support services designed to meet the special needs of patients and families dealing with cancer. The Seacoast Cancer Center is accredited as a Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. The Seacoast Cancer Center's oncology staff helps each patient and family meet the challenges of living with cancer by providing information, guidance and practical suggestions to involve them in the decision-making options along the way.
The Radiation Oncology Unit, offers state-of-the-art equipment and technologies allowing patients to remain close to home during their course of treatment. The Seacoast Cancer Center now offers advanced treatment modalities such as three-dimensional, conformal treatment planning, High Dose Rate Brachytherapy (HDR), Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Stereotactic RadioSurgery (SRS) and Stereotactic RadioTherapy (SRT) designed to spare healthy tissues while more-aggressively targeting cancerous tissues. All of these advanced therapies are provided in a comfortable setting staffed by specialists in the field. Radiation Oncology recently completed a $9.3 million expansion project that added state-of-the-art Varian Novalis TX and Trilogy TX linear accelerators.
The Medical Oncology Unit has been enhanced by its acceptance as an affiliate program in the National Cancer Institute's Cancer Trial Support Unit network offering oncology patients access to clinical trials previously available only at major medical centers.
The Infusion Unit features an 18-bay infusion area, a central nurses' station surrounded by private patient cubicles within a wide expanse of windows. An adjacent, small brick-walled garden is available for patients and family to enjoy as weather permits. The Seacoast Cancer Center expansion also includes private patient waiting areas, additional bathrooms and designated spaces for an oncology pharmacy, nutrition and social work services. Integrative Therapies also has two rooms located near the Center for massage therapy and Reiki treatments.
The Seacoast Cancer Center is actively involved in community programs designed to educate people about cancer-related issues. Support groups, cancer screenings, cancer recovery programs and special community events further demonstrate our commitment to the communities we serve.
