WDH's 2012 Celebrity Golf Classic raises over $50,000

The Wentworth-Douglass Hospital 2012 Celebrity Golf Classic began quietly with a solemn 9/11 remembrance by Gen. Ken Clark (Ret.). The nation’s flag waved gently against a brilliant blue sky as St. Thomas Aquinas High School freshman Caroline Carter sang the national anthem.

Celebrity golfers joined foursomes for the 18-hole scramble. In addition to several physician celebrities, sports celebrities included Ray Bourque, Bob Montgomery, Dwight Davis and Larry Eisenhower.

At the end of the day, Wentworth-Douglass Hospital President & CEO Gregory Walker thanked players, sponsors and more than 50 volunteers for their support of the tournament that netted over $50,000 for Hospital’s new Women & Children’s Center opening in January 2013.  “I’m very proud to be part of a Hospital that cares so much for the tiniest members of our community who will someday, I hope, grow up to care for others, support those in need and take time to play golf,” Walker said.

The new Women & Children’s Center includes larger labor, delivery, post-partum rooms; a dedicated C-Section OR, larger nursery with separate, private rooms for special care babies, a family playroom, family conference room, pediatric exam room and dedicated pediatric inpatient rooms. In addition to proceeds from the Golf Tournament, many generous donors have also supported the new Women & Children’s Center including the Hannaford Foundation, the family of Dover’s first pediatrician Dr. Robert Wilson, Mike and Laurie Steinberg, Helen & Neil Garvey and volunteer Beryle Banks.

The event’s success was possible due to a team of 50 dedicated volunteers and a 19 member golf committee chaired by John Polychronis and Phil von Hemert. First place winners of the Golf Tournament were Ryan O'Quinn, Kirk O'Quinn, Daren Dulac, Andy Cyr and Mike Souza. Second place went to Jeff Pollock, Jamus LaFreniere, John Nollet, Scott Walters, and Dr. Greg Andrecyk. Third place winners were Dan Raposa, Mike Steinberg, Rollie Janetos, Sam Campagana and Bob Montgomery.

The event’s title sponsor was Kleen Laundry & Dry Cleaning Services, Inc.
