Wentworth-Douglass Hospital Achieves Accreditation by the Joint Commission:
Wentworth-Douglass Hospital recently underwent a rigorous survey process and achieved accreditation at time of survey, earning a Gold Seal of ApprovalTM by the Joint Commission.

To earn The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of ApprovalTM, a hospital must demonstrate it meets national standards of excellence, and undergoes an on-site survey by a Joint Commission survey team. The Joint Commission standards address the organization's level of performance in key functional areas, such as patient rights, patient treatment, and infection control. The standards focus not simply on an organization's ability to provide safe, high quality care, but on its actual performance as well. Standards set forth performance expectations for activities that affect the safety and quality of patient care. If an organization does the right things and does them well, its patients will experience good outcomes.

Accreditation helps hospitals improve their performance, raise the level of
patient care, and demonstrate accountability in the rapidly changing health care marketplace.

WDH Listed in U.S.News Best Hospitals

Wentworth-Douglass Hospital is the only Seacoast hospital and one of 1,569 hospitals nationwide listed on the 19th annual U.S.News Best Hospitals list.

According to U.S. News.com 5,453 hospitals were initially "put through a rigorous statistical mill" to determine rankings in 12 specialty areas. "To be considered," U.S. News.com reported, "a hospital had to meet a least one of three requirements: membership in the Council of Teaching Hospitals, affiliation with a medical school, or availability of a least six of 13 key technologies such as robotic surgery.  This year, nearly two-thirds of all hospitals failed the first test."

Wentworth-Douglass Hospital made the first cut with 1,569 hospitals on the list.  Hospital President and CEO Gregory Walker, FACHE, is grateful for the hard work of so many employees and members of the medical staff who contributed to the hospital's achievement.

"It is truly an honor to be recognized on this national list of best hospitals," Walker said.  "Our staff have worked diligently to bring truly sophisticated technology to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.  We introduced the daVinci robotic surgical system a few years ago and this month opened our new addition to the Seacoast Cancer Center. Technology is only part of our success.  The special skills and compassion of our caregivers makes the difference everyday for our patients."
