Chest Clinic

The Chest Clinic at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital provides a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach to care for patients with a known or suspected malignancy of the chest. The Chest Clinic also provides a forum for a multidisciplinary team second opinion.

We make it easier for you. You will be seen by multiple specialty physicians in one visit and in one location. You will leave The Chest Clinic with a plan of care the same day of your consultation. You will have a single-point contact in order to guide you and your family throughout your plan of care.

The Multidisciplinary Team

Doctors:

  • Pulmonologist: a physician specializing in diseases of the respiratory system
  • Thoracic Surgeon: a physician who is a specialist in surgery of lungs and the chest cavity
  • Medical Oncologist: a physician specializing in administration of medicines used to treat cancer
  • Radiation Oncologist: a physician who specializes in the administration of radiation therapy
  • Pathologist: a physician who specializes in the examination of tissues, cells, and specimens of body fluid for evidence of disease
  • Radiologist: a physician who specializes in imaging
  • Nurse Navigator: an RN who coordinates and assists patients with plan of care
  • Social Services, Clinical Nutrition, and Clinical Trials

Patient Visit

A nurse navigator will contact you as soon as a referral is made by your physician. The nurse navigator will act as your single point of contact. The navigator will collect all needed medical information and inform you of your appointment.

Before your arrival at The Chest Clinic all members of the multidisciplinary team will conduct an in-depth review of your medical information. A group of experts will focus on you and collectively determine the best possible plan of care for the best possible outcome.

Upon your arrival at The Chest Clinic you will be checked in and registered. You will be triaged by nursing staff in order to verify and update your medical information. You will be seen by specialists from the team who will engage in consulting sessions with you and your family. You may be seen by several specialists the day of your appointment so plan on spending several hours at the Clinic. Your plan of care will be explained to you and your family by members of the multidisciplinary team. Your primary care physician will receive a copy of all specialty consultation reports.
