Social Work Services

NH Advance Directives
Maine Advance Directives

The Social Work Services staff provide emotional support, information and assistance to patients and their families in coping with the challenges posed by birth, illness, injuries, aging and death. Members of the department collaborate with patients, their families and their teams to make arrangements and referrals to outside agencies after discharge from the hospital.

Issues surrounding healthcare can be overwhelming. At Wentworth-Douglass Hospital social workers are here to help answer your questions.

  • What do I do if I have no insurance coverage, or if my coverage doesn't include the care I need?
  • What kind of services can I get at home?
  • What other support services are there in my community that can help me with my special needs?

Sometimes your questions may have less to do with services and more to do with emotional support.

  • Who will support me and my family through my hospitalization/treatment?
  • How will I cope with all the changes my illness brings?
  • Who can I talk to about the feelings we are experiencing?
  • Are there people I can talk to who have a similar diagnosis?

Clinical social workers provide assistance and education with healthcare and wellness issues and support to patients, families and community members who are seeking help in areas such as adoption, guardianship, indigent care and abuse cases.

Social Workers:

  • Are here for you and your family
  • Will help you find support available within the community
  • Lead and can make referrals to support and educational groups
  • Are available to members of the community for planning future needs
  • Can assist with completing advance directives for healthcare

How to Receive Our Assistance:

  • Ask your physician, nurse, or other hospital staff member
  • Call us between 8:00am and 4:30pm Monday through Friday at (603) 740-2826. There are no separate charges for our services.
